Volunteer Activity- what can you get involved with
Volunteer roles are split roughly between befriending roles (usually undertaken one-to-one basis ) and activity based roles. There have been a wide range of activity based roles within the care homes including arts and craft, reminiscence, training, cat therapy etc . Volunteers can be involved with residents living with a range of conditions although a very high proportion in homes are living with some form of dementia.
Care home staff can face a number of problems including time, a lack of management prioritisation, little understanding of volunteering but we can help in reducing this by close liaison with the volunteers placed at Homes. The project should offer more support for volunteers including ad hoc and structured as well as group and one-to-one support (this has been successful in the care homes where it has been introduced). Our project should will provide additional support to care home staff around volunteer management we will run a training program covering the basic skills and training needed to work in a care home. We will place persons enthusiastic and passionate about working in a care setting.
There is compelling evidence that where volunteering is working well it is having significant positive impacts on residents, relatives and volunteers especially around social and emotional wellbeing. Let us help you get into a new role and start a career in care.
